About

Passerelle is a dedicated organisation in Mauritius that provides comprehensive support to some of the most vulnerable members of society. It was established with the aim of addressing GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE mainly the needs of HOMELESS WOMEN, victims of DOMESTIC VIOLENCE and HUMAN TRAFFICKING.

Mission and Vision

Passerelle's mission is to offer holistic support and empowerment to homeless women and victims of violence, helping them rebuild their lives and reintegrate into society. This includes providing safe shelters, psycho-social support, legal aid, and professional training.

Passerelle envisions a society where every woman and child can live free from violence.

Passerelle operates through a dedicated team of professionals and volunteers, including social workers, legal advisors, psychologists, and trainers. The organisation collaborates with local authorities, other NGOs, and international bodies to enhance its impact and reach.

Key Areas of Focus

Shelters and Transitional Homes

Passerelle provides safe and secure emergency accommodation for women and children.

Psycho-Social and Legal Support

The organisation offers comprehensive psycho-social services, including counseling and therapy, as well as legal assistance to help victims.

Professional Training and Economic Empowerment

Passerelle runs various training programs aimed at empowering women with the skills needed to achieve economic independence and re-enter the workforce.

Research and surveys (Gender-based violence)

In order to support the local and regional institutions in developing strategies related to gender-based, work on surveys and contribute to various researches by collecting data.

Awareness and Advocacy

The organisation actively engages in awareness campaigns and advocacy efforts to educate the public and authorities about the issues faced by homeless women and victims of violence, pushing for systemic changes

Support to regional organisations

We support other organisations in Mauritius and in the Indian Ocean to set up their emergency shelters and have been helping both Rodrigues and Seychelles in setting up their first shelter for domestic violence victims.

Goals

Passerelle's mission and activities are closely aligned with several of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030.
